Combat Skills

So you want to learn to fight like a Viking, a character from Narnia, or someone from Game of Thrones. Congratulations! You’ve come to the right place.

In the SCA, we teach three main types of martial arts: Armoured Combat, Renaissance Fencing, and Archery. Each of them is governed by strict safety rules, and over time, through research and practice, our group has developed a large body of knowledge, and an enthusiastic community of experienced experts who are happy to share their skills. All forms of combat are open to men and women, and some training is available for under-18s.

Authorisation

We require all participants in live combat scenarios (i.e. not in training) to be ‘Authorised’ as safe by a trained safety officer (called a Marshal). Our Chief Marshal has written a guide to getting authorised for armoured combat that you can Read Here.

For more information, have a look through our pages on Armoured Combat, Renaissance Fencing, and Archery, or check out the Kingdom (national) combat website. If you just want to give it a try, come along to one of our regular meetings, where we’ll have equipment available for use.
