Politarchopolis heads to Canterbury Faire

Baron Crispin recently visited his Cousins in the Barony of Southron Guard (South Island, New Zealand) for the annual Canterbury Faire. The event was honoured by the presence of Their Majesties, Kinggiyadai Khagan I and Altani Khalighu Yeke Khatun I, our most glorious King and Queen of Lochac

He was not alone, being joined by a good number of Politarchopolis including Sir Blethyn, Baroness Ailis, Lady Helouys to name a few.

The event showcases both the arts & sciences as well as the combat arts.

Valentines – pension call

It is a tradition in the Barony of Politarchopolis that we remember those have done service on our Guard. In recognition of their support, anyone who has served as Guard or Sergeant is granted a Pension in perpetuity.

The Pension, as specified in the Book of Ceremonies, is a donation of alms, once yearly, to any Pensioner who will present themselves at our court on the Feast of St Valentine.

Although the Feast this year is to be celebrated somewhat later than usual, we encourage all our brave Pensioners to attend if they may, and receive at our hands their due.

From the Baron and Baroness

Crispin and Joan, Baron and Baroness of Politarchopolis send warm greetings to you our populace.

Our plans for this year begin with Joan travelling to witness the coronation of Kinggiyadai and Altani at twelfth night in the Barony of Rowany. We hope that this show of support will be agreeable to Them and disuade Them from sending Their Horde to lay waste to our towns and villages.

On Sunday January the 25th we anticipate the next ultimate fighter tournaments at our regular training ground in Ainslie, and in February there will be a picnic on St Valentines day. Watch out for more information about these events in the coming weeks.

On the 20th of February Crispin shall travel to Bordescross to test the strength of the southern armies. We encourage all who would join him to book before the 6th of January to get the cheaper rate.

Barony makes the front page of the Canberra Times!

Did you see us in the paper?

Last weekend the Barony hosted their Majesties, Niall and Liadan as well as the Barons and Baronesses from Stormhold, Rowany, Innilgard and Aneala at the 2014 Fields of Gold Tournaments Weekend.

Drawn by the tournaments (rapier, archery, armoured combat and equestrian) and the feasting the Canberra Times popped out to say hello! They were lucky enough to be there on the day that Lochac history was made when Baroness Eva von Danzig was sent to her vigil in preparation for joining the Order of Chivalry by their Majesties.  Baroness Eva will be the 41st female knight in the Society and the 1st female knight in Lochac!

You can read about it here and see the wonderful photos they took.

There was amazing classes run on weaving, heraldry, making hose and pageantry.  Many people were recognised for their work, their artistry and their prowess.

There was roast suckling pig, smoked trout, orange sorbet, roast lamb, roast onions, herb sallet and poached pears – all medieval recipes that the modern palette seems to love!

Why not look us up and join the fun!

Keep an eye out for the new date. And drink lots of water. And stay in the shade.

Send us your words

Greetings, Politarchopolans,

With Quarter Day (Fields of Gold) rapidly approaching, this is a reminder that although our spies are everywhere, we still rejoice to hear from our populace.  If you feel that any member of our Barony, or any visitor from afar, is deserving of reward,  let it be speedily known.

Recommendations are best in writing. Email addresses for us and for the Crown are below.

Regards,
Joan, Baroness.

Woden Valley Festival

The Barony was invited to participate in the Woden Valley Festival on 8 November 2014.  The Woden Valley Festival (WVF) is a community celebration of the Woden Valley, Canberra, held annually since 2007. It is hosted by the Woden Community Service (WCS) in partnership with sponsors, and is supported by the ACT Government.

The festival provides an opportunity for the community to gather in a positive and uplifting environment. It is a chance to talk with neighbours, discover local talent, develop new interests and get active. The festival also aims to provide a platform for local organisations to promote services and resources on offer to residents of Woden Valley and greater Canberra.

Big thanks to everyone who participated in the Woden Valley Festival demo yesterday. We had His Excellency, Crispin, Otto, Gabriel, Robbie, Maedb, Blanche and Henri throughout the day.

Our display items looked gorgeous on tables Mistress Rowan had loaned us, banners fluttered merrily and Gabriel and Sophia’s photo cards (contact details on the back) were in high demand!

We have received verbal thanks from the Woden Valley Community Centre and an invitation back for next year where they would like to put us in one of the central positions!

A wonderful showing for the Barony.
