Are you a young adult in Politarchopolis? Come hang out with us!
The Greenhorns Hangouts are a regular gathering for under-35s in our Barony to socialise, learn, and work on projects together. Come along on the first and third Wednesday of the month to spend time with friends, or make some new ones – we’d love to see you there!
First and third Wednesdays, 5:45-7:45pm, Civic Library Mezzanine (16 July, 6 August, 20 August, 3 September, 17 September, 1 October, 15 October, 5 November, 19 November, and 3 December of 2025)
What will happen at the hangouts?
We want to offer regular structured activities, as well as space to spend time with friends and work on projects. Each session, there will be a class or discussion in one half of the space from 6-7pm, while the rest of the space and time will be available for people to use as they prefer. The classes and discussions will mostly be led by volunteers from the group, and will be on generally applicable topics like ‘planning your next garb project’ or ‘what to bring to a potluck’.
Who is invited to the hangouts?
The Greenhorn Hangouts are intended for the young adults of our Barony, which we are defining for now as under-35s. We would rather be inclusive than exclusive; if this sounds like a good fit for you and your social circle, we aren’t going to ask about your birthday.
I’m new to the SCA. Can I come along?
Yes! We are happy to welcome newcomers and old hands alike. If you’re part of our age range, we’d love to meet you.
Where are the hangouts?
We are hanging out on the top floor of Civic Library, at Civic Square, London Circuit, Civic. Our closest bus stop is Legislative Assembly London Circuit (Stop 3356), which is 150m away. We are 350m from the Civic Bus Interchange and 400m away from the Alinga St light rail stop. The closest car park is 100m away, on London Circuit, but please check the roadworks in the area to see whether it’s accessible in any given week.
We have after hours access through the back entrance of the library, shown in the photo below.

How accessible is the venue? What facilities does it have?
The mezzanine is accessible by a lift which is directly inside the after-hours entrance and opens onto the upstairs mezzanine space. Next to the lift on the ground floor there are single stall bathrooms, including a wheelchair accessible bathroom and a bathroom with a change table. In the mezzanine area, there is a sink with a zip tap to provide hot and cold water. There is air conditioning, and ample powerpoints.
How much does it cost?
The Barony has committed to paying our venue fees for the first three months, so for July, August, and September, members can attend the hangouts for free.
If you are not an SCA member (see https://sca.org.au/membership/), you will need to pay $10 per session to cover event insurance.
Who do I ask if I have more questions?
If you have other questions about the Greenhorns Hangouts, or if you would need support to be able to attend and participate, please feel free to contact our coordinator, Gwen verch David, at meredith.waldron1@gmail.com.
