Introduction to Armoured Combat

A beginner friendly introduction and condensed instruction for those interested in Armoured Combat.

The Barony of Politarchopolis, which is the Canberra branch of the Society for Creative Anarchonism (SCA), is hosting an Introduction workshop to Armour Combat under SCA rules. This will be held over two days, and involves practical instruction and physical activity involving loaned SCA approved equipment.

It will cover the core principles of basic sword and shield for SCA tournament combat, and is suitable for all skill and experience levels. There will be opportunity to try combat in armour with an experienced authorised combatant on the 2nd day, time and loaner equipment permitting.

When: 8 & 9 November – Saturday & Sunday

Cost: $70 workshop fee per non-member – includes $10 non-member insurance ($60 for SCA Members) paid 2 weeks in advance.

0915-930 overview & induction
0930-1015 – introduction to SCA & our combat.
1015-1100 – basic guard & stance & foot work
1100-1115 – break
1115-1200 – power motion & snap to the head.
12-1230 – defending the snap to the head (line them up)
1230-1330 lunch break
1330-1415 Offsides & Range.
1415-1430 Break
1430-1515 Defending offsides
1515-1600 – Movement
1600-1630 – Putting it together
1645 – 1700 – finish up.
1700-1730
Pack down.

0930-1015 – introduction equipment and rules
1015-1100 – Overview weapon types & other complex techniques.
1100-1115 – break
1115-1200 – Demos of combat
12-1230 – SCA as a whole and moving forward

1330-1415 Option to try combat in loaner armour
1415-1430 Break
1430-1515 Drill work
1515-1700 – Option to try combat in loaner armour
1700-1730 – Pack down.
