Valentine’s Day Picnic

St Valentines

The Greenhorn’s invite the Barony and visitors from all other lands to join Politarchopolis for the St Valentine’s Day Picnic – A celebration of Love, Friendship and Great Deeds inspired by the tales of King Arthur and his court.

Participate in and witness the Changeover of the Barony’s martial Champions and the honouring of its martial forces.

Date: 14 February 2026
Location: Corroboree Park, 47 Patterson St, Ainslie

Designed for attendees of all ages a range of competitions will be held throughout the day:

A Contest of Artisans

There are many tales of moments when King Arthur and his knights were struck by some fine object that delighted the senses with the skill of its making. Artisans of all ages and ranks are invited to present their finest recent works, and we advise all to visit this display of art and skill to feast their eyes and indicate the work they think is most worthy of renown.

A Rose Tourney for Armoured and Rapier Combatants

As kings and nobles did of old when they held round table tournaments in memory of King Arthur, we challenge combatants of all ranks to display their prowess using blunted weapons, so that courage and chivalry may be displayed without injury to any. This tourney shall be a rose tourney, so that entrants shall fight for the glory of others.

An Archery Hunt with War Arrows

Many have heard the tale of how King Arthur and his knights were once menaced by a furry foe with big, sharp, pointy teeth. We invite all to take up bow and arrow to strike down such creatures as they roam the park.

A Hobby Horse Joust for All

King Arthur and his knights often rode into battle, and so we shall hold in their honour a mighty joust! All ages are invited to participate in this joust, with hobby horses and boffer weapons, and the lists shall be divided into gentle riders and bold, so that everyone faces appropriate opponents.

A Noble Quest

No gathering in honour of King Arthur’s round table would be complete without a quest! This quest is for those of all ages and abilities, and will be open throughout the event, for participants to complete at any time between opening and closing court.

What Should I bring?

Food to eat and share with others. This is a supplemented pot-luck event – light fruit, food and cordials will be available for attendees through the day to supplement what people bring.

Pageantry! Banners and sunshades to attract the eye, decorate the park and make known your history.

Games – Bocce? Chess? Quoits? Cards? Bring your favourite games to play with other people
