Politarchopolis Baronial Archery Tournament, AS LVIII (59) – A&S Competition
Greetings, archers!
This year’s Baronial Archery Tournament will take the form of an A&S competition, and the theme is… ‘An archery tournament’!
Entrants are encouraged to craft an archery tournament. It can be based on a period archery event, or be something completely new. Because this is an A&S competition, you will need to provide some documentation for your challenge (more info below).
Key dates
Competition opens: 14 September 2024
Judging by the populace: 30 November 2024 (the Saturday of FoG XII)
Winner announced: Before FoG XII closes
Baronial champion announced: Before FoG XII closes
Conditions of Entry
By entering this challenge, you are agreeing to participate in the Politarchopolis Baronial Archery Championship and accept the risk that you may be selected as the next Baronial Archery Champion.
You also acknowledge that the Baron and Baroness have the final choice in who will be the next Baronial Archery Champion, based on who they feel best represents the ideals of courtesy, chivalry, entertainment and skill in archery. This person may not necessarily be the winner of the tournament.
Finally, you are granting permission for your archery challenge to be run at least once in Politarchopolis in the coming year.
Documentation
The documentation (including any images) will be displayed at Fields of Gold XII, to be judged by the Baron and Baroness, the archers in attendance and the general populace. Physical targets or models may also be displayed alongside the documentation, though each entrant is responsible for getting their target to the site and taking it home after the competition.
If you do not have access to a printer, I can print your documentation and transport it to FoG. However, you must e-mail it to me BEFORE midnight on Wednesday 27 November 2024 (alotdelabro@gmail.com).
The documentation should include the following:
The name of your challenge.
Your SCA name, and the name of your local group.
Some background information for your tournament. Is it testing archers in a certain way? Is there anything fun or silly about it? If it is based on a period challenge, when and where was it originally shot? What resources did you use to research the original challenge, and have you made any changes to it?
Instructions for running the challenge. For example, the target(s) used and target size, distance(s) shot, number of arrows each round, and how the challenge is scored.
If your challenge uses a non-standard target (e.g., not a five colour FITA/WA face or an IKAC period division face), include a drawing, photograph or diagram of the target, and instructions for how to make it.
If the competition uses a 3D target, include a brief summary of preferred materials for making the target, the dimensions of the target, and how it is to be set on the field.
If the competition uses a target face, include enough information for someone to be able to recreate it. You may want to provide a diagram with measurements for the target elements, or draw your target face on graph paper so it can be scaled up.
