August 16 | Ainslie scout hall
Building on the success of our Byzantine potluck and its eight entries into the Kingdom Arts & Science competition, let’s do this again. This time around, we’ll meet on 16 August 2026 at the Hall, and explore food from the Holy Roman Empire.
There is absolutely no requirement to have your pot luck dish entered in the Kingdom competition. There is also no requirement to have your dish considered for ranking in the Cooks Guild. You can cook something just because you love to cook, and want to experiment with period recipes. (But the other stuff is fun too, and getting written feedback is a great thing to review later.)
Many thanks to Frau Ragnhildr for adding this potluck to the (very busy) A&S timetable and arranging judges for us.
The Holy Roman Empire, also known as the Heiliges Romisches Reich, or the Sacrum Romanum Imperium existed from around 800CE to 1806CE. It covered a large geographical area, as you can see from the attached map of the empire circa 1500CE.
In terms of food, we can focus on any of the territories which formed part of the empire at any point from 800-1600CE. The world really is our oyster on this one!
If you are planning on entering the Kingdom A&S competition, it would be great if you registered your interest at
(Having some idea of numbers helps Frau Ragnhildr know how many judges to organise.)
Please bring along a list of ingredients in your dish, so that folks with dietary requirements can eat safely.
