Newsletters

The Barony of Politarchopolis produces an occasional monthly newsletter, called Griffintayle. The letters contain information about upcoming events, articles of interest submitted by members for publication, and messages from group officers with relevant contact details. They are a great central place to stay up to date on key changes.

As we are a volunteer organisation and newsletters can take a lot of effort to produce, we may go periods of time without new releases. Due to this we have a group mailing list which will send you important updates via email. We recommend signing up as this is often the quickest way to receive updates.

Politarchopolis also has an official Facebook Group that is quite active. Members post to this group with updates on happenings within the Barony and other groups. They will also often post helpful resources and seek input on topics of discussion. For a more targeted feed there are various non-official Facebook sub groups that focus on specialised activities such as Arts and Sciences (A&S), Armoured Combat, Fencing, and even Lampworking (glass bead making). Once you have come to a few activities, one of our members can add you, so you can stay connected with likeminded people and activity specific resources.

Our date format

The SCA has its own calendar year. This year is measured from when the first event took place on 1st May 1966. Our ‘new year’ is on the 1st of May and is known as May Day. Each year is knows as an Anno Societatis [year date since 1966]. To make things easier, we use the shorthand “A.S.”. You may hear this at court and during our official ceremonies.

If you hear an A.S. year and are unsure which Gregorian year it is referring to, we have a handy conversion table which can be found at AS Reckoning.
